Owner: Fayette apparel plant to stay open

The owner of a Fayette apparel plant that informed its 119 workers less than two weeks ago that it would permanently close the factory by the end of October issued a statement Tuesday indicating it would keep the plant open but would lay off fewer workers.

An Alabama clothing plant is going to close soon, losing jobs not to overseas labor, but to prison labor.

American Power Source is an apparel company in Fayette County where workers make clothing for the U.S. military. The plant could be out of business by the end of October when its contract with the federal government ends.

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt's re-election campaign has paid $13,000 in penalties for filing inaccurate finance reports.

The documents released recently by the Federal Election Commission show Aderholt's campaign account misrepresented how much money it raised; spent; and had on hand for several years.

The Federal Election Commission said he kept inaccurate records from 2006 to 2010.
Aderholt represents Alabama's 4th Congressional District, which is just south of Huntsville and north of Birmingham.
