Military Academy Nominations

As a Member of Congress, I am able to nominate young men and women from Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District to one of our country’s four service academies: the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The United States Coast Guard Academy does not accept Congressional nominations; applications must be submitted directly to the Director of Admissions.

In addition to assisting students seeking a nomination to a U.S. Service Academy, my office can now also help applicants who are interested in attending Marion Military Institute (MMI) in Marion, Alabama. MMI is one of the nation's premier military junior colleges and offers several pathways to military service, including the Early Commissioning Program (ECP), which allows qualified students to become commissioned Army officers in just two years. benefits may include full-tuition scholarships, book allowances, monthly stipends, and opportunities to serve in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve while completing your degree.

If you're interested in attending a service academy or MMI, you should begin the application process in the spring of your junior year of high school.

To request assistance, please download theService Academy/MMI Application Form, complete it, and return it to my Shoals District Office. Once my office has received your application, we will review it and contact you for further information. I will make my service academy nominations in January of your senior year, and the academies will announce appointments by the following June. The deadline for submitting your application to my office is December 1.
