"The Paycheck Protection Program was written with urgency to address a great need. At a time when most of the population is under stay-at-home or shelter-in-place orders, this program has helped many businesses retain their employees while complying with state and local requirements. Yes, there definitely were some growing pains when the program first went active, but what we hear from the roughly 20,000 businesses who have benefited from this program in Alabama is that the program is working.
Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) on Wednesday is set to send a letter to President Donald Trump advocating for additional "Buy America" requirements as the nation deals with the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Coronavirus Update: Frequently Asked Questions
It seems that with each passing day there is more news and information to consume about the Coronavirus. Here in Alabama we are feeling the impacts of it greatly, with President Trump granting our state a Major Disaster Declaration and predictions surfacing that the curve will peak on April 10, seven days from now. To add to this, the CARES Act that Congress passed last week is in effect, but questions have come up about how this will actually work for individuals, families, and small businesses.
Representative Robert Aderholt (AL-04) today announced changes to the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, which has resulted in all schools being closed, this year's art competition has been modified for the safety of our students, teachers and special guests who normally attend.
Our country is going through the worst public health crisis since the flu pandemic of 1918. The Coronavirus impact is unprecedented, and as we navigate these unchartered waters it's critical that serious, thoughtful solutions are put forward. That is why I voted in favor of the Phase 3 stimulus package today, known as the CARES Act. Although this $2 trillion bill is not perfect, I believe it is necessary as it provides vital funding for Alabama and the entire nation.

Since first being elected to Congress, one of the greatest joys for me has been to personally give tours of the Capitol Building to the hundreds of people who visit our office each year. I make it a point, whenever possible, to take people into the House Chamber, so they can see their government at work. If constituents have traveled all the way to Washington, then they deserve to get a tour from their member of Congress.
Like most places today, the Coronavirus is dominating a lot of the talk on Capitol Hill. As it has become clear that China's efforts to contain the virus have failed, and there have now been deaths in the U.S., concern has grown about a possible outbreak here at home. We've seen that concern directly with what has happened on Wall Street with the markets.
With all this news, and the almost non-stop coverage in the media, it would be easy to become panicked. But instead of panic, it's better to be prepared and informed.
