WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) released a statement on the death of Colbert County native Percy Sledge.

"I was saddened by the news of Percy Sledge's death. His great songs like 'When a Man Loves a Woman' have not only added to America's rich music history, they have brought tremendous pride to his native Leighton, the Shoals and Alabama as a whole.

"Sledge's voice is one of the rich tones that created the "Muscle Shoals Sound." He rightfully has a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.

"I am pleased once again to be a sponsor of the United States Congressional Art Competition for high school students within the 4th District. This is an annual nationwide event that recognizes and encourages the artistic talent we have in our district. Students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to compete.
