Congressman Aderholt Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Recognizing November as National Adoption Month and November 18th as National Adoption Day

November 17, 2023

WASHINGTON — Today, Representatives Robert Aderholt (R-AL) and Adam Smith (D-WA), co-chairs of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA), introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing November as National Adoption Month, with November 18th being named National Adoption Day. The legislation parallels a resolution introduced in the Senate by fellow co-chairs, Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND), on November 15th.

“Recognizing National Adoption Day and Month is an integral part of keeping adoption as a legislative priority,” said Rep. Aderholt. “Uniting families is certainly something that unites Republicans and Democrats across party lines. I look forward to continuing to work together in a bipartisan way to tackle the barriers to adoption until every child knows the blessing of a loving home.”

As co-chairs of CCA, Rep. Aderholt and Rep. Smith lead the largest bicameral, bipartisan caucus, which works to bring awareness to the adoption community, improve the adoption process, and find homes for every child looking for a family.

“I’m happy to introduce this resolution today to recognize November as Adoption Month with my co-chairs on the bipartisan Congressional Coalition on Adoption,” said Rep. Smith. “I was adopted and believe deeply that promoting adoption is an important way to support children and families worldwide. Congress must continue to look for ways to strengthen foster care and adoption to achieve the best outcomes for families.”

The CCA was founded in 1985 and has since pioneered efforts in creating meaningful legislative change. Rep. Aderholt, honored this week by the National Council for Adoption at their annual National Adoption Hall of Fame event, remains committed to ensuring that as our most vulnerable, American children are protected and that adoptive parents are supported.

The resolution has 27 additional original cosponsors: Sanford Bishop (GA), Jerry Carl (AL), Emanuel Cleaver (MO), Watson Coleman (NJ), Danny Davis (IL), Jake Ellzey (TX), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Garret Graves (LA), Raul Grijalva (AZ), Ashley Hinson (IA), Erin Houchin (IN), Tom Kean (NJ), Mike Kelly (PA), Jake LaTurner (KS), Julia Letlow (LA), Barry Loudermilk (GA), Stephen Lynch (MA), Nancy Mace (SC), Cory Mills (FL), John Moolenaar (MI), Barry Moore (AL), Blake Moore (UT), Zach Nunn (IA), John Rutherford (FL), Maria Salazar (FL), Chris Smith (NJ), Robert Wittman (VA)
