Aderholt stops in Guntersville

Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, made a stop at the Huddle House in Guntersville on Tuesday to help rally support for local GOP candidates and talk about the upcoming presidential election.
Aderholt said one of the purposes for his stop was to let people know there are a number of races on the Nov. 6 ballot, other than the one for the presidency, and a number of Republican candidates in those races, including himself.
Aderholt is facing opposition from Democratic candidate Daniel H. Boman.
The congressman took a few moments to talk about issues, including jobs and the nation’s debt, along with Mitt Romney and Jesus.
“I think the real issue that stands in this election is jobs, and trying to create jobs and make sure that we get the economy back on track.” Aderholt said.
Aderholt then on to compliment Mitt Romney’s previous debate performance. He expected Romney to have a good showing in Tuesday night’s debate.
He also spoke highly of vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, saying he “spoke from the heart,” during his recent debate with Vice-president Joe Biden.
Aderholt also spoke about the nation’s multi-trillion-dollar debt and used a somewhat biblical example to illustrate how much money $1 trillion is exactly.
“To try to grasp how much $16 trillion is really blows the mind,” he said. “To try to even get how much $1 trillion is blows the mind. But, to get some idea of how much just $1 trillion is, if you were to go back 2,000 years ago when Jesus was born on this Earth, and you go back to Bethlehem, and the day he was born you started putting $1 million into a bank account, for every day since Jesus was born, over 2,000 years ago, if you added that every day until today, it would not even be $1 trillion. And, out country is $16 trillion in debt.”
Aderholt said that is why it is important to “get our arms around the debt in this country and stop the runaway spending and do something about getting our fiscal house in order.”
But, he added fixing the fiscal problems could not come at the expense of the current moral issues the Republican party is working on.
“If we concentrate on just the fiscal aspect of it and forget about the principles this nation was founded on, then I think it will be all for naught as well.”
