CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT JOINS CONGRESSIONAL COALITION ON ADOPTION CO-CHAIRS IN LETTER TO SECRETARY OF STATE BLINKEN

March 24, 2022

Congressman Robert Aderholt joined his fellow co-chairs of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCA) in sending a letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken advocating for Ukrainian children who are engaged in the adoption process with American families.

The letter outlines suggested actions by the State Department: (1) locate and identify approximately 300 Ukrainian children waiting to join families in the United States; and (2) work with the Ukrainian government in developing a means of transporting the children out of harm's way.

"We have all witnessed the devastation in Ukraine and the brutality of the Russian military. Even children are not safe from Putin's war on Ukraine. This is why I have led this letter with the other co-chairs to ask the Secretary of State to make these special provisions. One of my priorities in Congress has been to protect the most vulnerable, and these children are in need of protection," said Congressman Aderholt.

The bipartisan and bicameral letter, signed by 73 Member of Congress, was led by the co-chairs of the CCA: Representative Robert B. Aderholt (AL-04), Representative Adam Smith (WA-09), Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
