Day of Honor

Men and women in uniforms were spotted throughout the crowd. The Rev. Mitchell Williams, pastor at First United Methodist Church, used his message to convey a continuing appreciation for those who provide law enforcement, medical services, fire safety and other services on a daily basis.
Noting the devastation of 9/11 and, here in the Cullman area, the impact of the April 27 tornadoes, Williams directed the audience to 1st Corinthians 12: 14-26, portraying that the body isn't one part but many.
"When one part hurts, we all suffer," Williams said.
Recalling stories from 9/11 terrorist attacks, he said emergency personnel risked and gave their lives to help others in acts that selfless and heroic.
"We see God at work in you," he added.
The service included a presentation of a commemorative flag delivered to Mayor Max Townson by Congressman Robert Aderholt.
"This is very nice. You hate for any type of tragedy to happen, but it makes emergency responders feel good to know that the community feels this way about their efforts," said Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper.
Major Darrell Price, representing the Cullman County Sheriff's Office, echoed Culpepper's view.
"This is deeply appreciated by all of us. It's an honor to be here. I know that the sheriff, the deputies and all of the staff and our families are grateful for this time," Price said.
